I have always been fascinated by the underpinning force that motivates creativity. But what is it that gets us motivated in the first place? And how do we bottle it?

In a way it’s a bit of a chicken or the egg question, really. Are we ignited by an external spark, or from a flame already burning deeply within us? And which comes first?

So, in a nutshell (or should I say eggshell?), how do we discover, (or uncover) our creative passions?

I believe that our creativity can be sparked in many ways. Perhaps it is the act of seeing something new and interesting. Alternatively, it may be that natural inquisitiveness and sense of curiosity that we all possess. In any case, when we focus our awareness on the present moment and let all other thoughts drift away, we can become more open to creative ideas.

However, for many of us, modern life has sorely dampened the flame that we are all born with; the noise and fast pace of life has robbed us of opportunities – of the time and space to reflect and explore those things that we really enjoy; the things that truly motivate us.

I believe that we all need a reboot. The key to experiencing that external creative spark – and to reigniting our internal flame – is through a sense of engagement and connectedness with others.

Offsetting our ‘virtual’ relationships with some good old fashioned face-to-face interaction ensures that we are truly living in the present moment; allowing our creativity and imagination to flow.

Our creative passion burns bright within us all, we just need to reignite it! And when that flame is lit, it is this inner heat that motivates us.

Do you agree? What motivates your creativity?
